I have been out and about the last few weeks and a trip to Manchester tied in nicely with the UK launch for the all new Dali Rubicon series of loudspeakers. I saw the Rubicon models at the Munich Show but the UK launch gave me far more time to audition the range and speak with Dali about the technology behind the new design. The Dali Rubicon consists of five different models with the Rubicon 5 and the Rubicon 6 the most likely to draw attention due to the size and sound to pound ratio. Sitting below the Helicon series but with a distinct nod to the flagship Epicon in style, sound and technology the range starts £1599 and tops out at £4399.
There is no centre channel within the new range but instead an all new LCR ( left centre right ) speaker. Three of these could sit behind an acoustically transparent screen or work very well as rear speakers – a high quality Ikon on wall would be a good description. With a rotatable tweeter and a novel port design the Rubicon LCR can be used a stereo on wall pair and judging by the sound on offer the speakers are a real challenger to the PMC Wafer 1 and Wafer 2.
Needless to say I was impressed and the Rubicon series is on its way to the showroom. As soon as the speakers are here I will put them up against the Amphion Argon 3L and PMC Twenty:23
